Aber eigentlich hatte ich mich gestern abend schon entschieden, denn ich musste ja anfangen, das Garn zu faerben, wenn ich heute bei der Cast On Party im M1 auch anschlagen wollte.

Actually I already decided last night because I had to choose a color for dyeing if I wanted to join the Cast On Party at M1 today.

Ich habe mich tatsaechlich (erstmal) fuer rot entschieden und dass aus verschiedenen Gruenden:

Ich bin nochmal meine Queue bei Ravelry durchgegangen und habe ueberlegt, welche der Strickjacken, die noch auf meiner Tapetenrolle stehen, ich mir wirklich in rot vorstellen koennte. Es waren nicht sehr viele.
Da ich die Jacke aus handgesponnener Wolle stricke, werde ich sie wohl nicht so oft tragen wie den Ribby Cardi, damit sie nicht so schnell pillt und laenger haelt
rot laesst sich einfacher mit schwarz ueberfaerben als schwarz mit rot 😉

Actually I decided for red with different reasons:

I looked in my Ravelry queue and which cardigans on it I really could imagine in red. They weren’t much to count.
Since I’ll knit it with handspun yarn I won’t wear as often as I wear my Ribby Cardi to be sure it doesn’t start pilling so fast.
It is way easier to overdye red with black instead black with red.

Gefaerbt habe ich am Freitagabend allerdings ein dunkleres Rot als ich hier gezeigt hatte, da es mir nicht gelungen ist, dieses nachzufaerben bzw. ich den Fehler gemacht hatte, den Versuch auf Kammzug zu faerben, der Farbe natuerlich ganz anders annimmt als Garn. Ich habe zwei Durchgaenge hintereinander gefaerbt und die gleiche Farbzusammenstellung genommen. Trotzdem sind beide so unterschiedlich geworden und ich kann mir nicht ganz genau erklaeren, woran es liegt. Bloederweise gefaellt mir der Strang aus dem 2. Durchgang noch besser und ich weiss noch nicht genau, ob ich das wieder so hinkriege und es nachfaerben koennte.

I dyed Friday night and I did a darker red than I showed in this post because I couldn’t re-dye it in the way or better I made the mistake to try the re-dye on roving instead of yarn which always turns out in a different way than yarn does. I did 2 dye lots with the same colour mixture and the second lot is a lot different from the first one. I can’t really explain it but unfortunately I like this skein better. I have to try if I can re-dye it.

Eine Maschenprobe mit dem Garn aus dem 1. Durchgang habe ich auch schon gestrickt und mir gefaellt es sehr gut wie es verstrickt aussieht.

I already knitted a gauge swatch with the yarn from the first lot and I really like it how it knits up.

Gruen ja gruen sind alle meine Fuesse / Green oh green are all my feet

Ich habe die neon-gruene Sockenwolle angestrickt 🙂 Das sind meine ersten Toe up Socken und da ich offensichtlich genug Wolle habe, werden es eventuell sogar Kniestruempfe. (Nein, ich habe keine 3 Beine, das ist ein und die selbe Socke 😉 )

I casted on with the green sock yarn. These are my first toe up socks and it looks like that I’ll have enough yarn to make knee highs. (No, I don’t have 3 legs, it’s always the same sock 😉 )

Noch mehr Farbe & (k)eine Entscheidung / more color and (no) decision

Letzte Woche habe ich auch noch etwas Wolle gefaerbt, fuer die ich schon ein konkretes Projekt in Planung habe. Als naechstes moechte ich gern Norah (Ravelry Link) stricken. Verwenden werde ich ein handgesponnenes Garn, das zum Teil schon in meinem Stash vorhanden ist und ich noch einen (groesseren) Teil spinnen muss. Ich diskutiere immer noch mit mir, ob ich diese Jacke nun in Rot oder Schwarz stricke. Als erstes dachte ich an Schwarz, da ich dringend noch eine schwarze Zweitjacke zum viel getragenen Ribby Cardi brauche. Dann habe ich ueberlegt, dass mir das Rot von der Sockengarn-Ueberfaerbe-Aktion so gut gefaellt, dass ich das gleiche Rot auch fuer eine Strickjacke verwenden koennte. Maria bestaerkte mich darin und meinte, dass ich ja die ebenfalls geplante Mariah-Jacke in schwarz zeitgleich stricken koennte. Diese Idee finde ich auch gut. Ueber’s Wochenende habe ich mich aber wieder umentschieden und gedacht, ich stricke sie doch lieber in schwarz, da ich morgens, wenn ich in meinem Kleiderschrank stehe, am Ende doch zu schwarz greife und ich fuer ein rotes Kleidungsstueck ziemlich gut drauf sein muss, um so aus dem Haus zu gehen… Im Moment liegt der schwarze Strang nochmal im Faerbetopf, um die hellen Stellen zu ueberfaerben und auszutesten, ob ich noch ein dunkleres Schwarz hinbekomme. Wenn beide Straenge wieder trocken sind, werde ich Maschenproben stricken und mich dann hoffentlich entscheiden koennen.

Last week I also dyed some handspun yarn from my stash for which I actually have real project plans. My next project will be a Norah (Ravelry link) and I want to knit it with a handspun yarn that is already in my stash and part of it I have to spin because it’s not enough yet. Me, myself and I are still discussing if I will knit the sweater in black or red. The first color was black because I need a second cardigan in addition to my daily worn Ribby Cardi. After the last weeks sock yarn overdyeing activities I was thinking that I could knit the cardigan in the dark red. Maria said the same and that I could knit the also planned Mariah cardigan in black at the same time. Over the weekend I re-decided and was thinking about knitting it in black because when I’m standing in my closet in the morning I almost always take the black and have to be in a really good mood to actually leave the house in a red sweater… At the moment the black skein is in the dye pot again to overdye the light spots and to get a darker black. When both skeins are dry I will knit some swatches and maybe then I get a decision.

Faerbespass / dyeing fun

Am letzten Samstag habe ich mich mit Mtlaise zum Faerben getroffen. Wir hatten das schon seit Januar geplant, aber durch mein sprunghaft angestiegenes Arbeitspensum mussten wir es leider ein paar Mal verschieben. Nun hatte es endlich geklappt und wir haben bis in den spaeten Abend gefaerbt, neue Techniken ausprobiert und gequatscht. Ich habe jetzt endlich rausbekommen, welches Gruen ich eigentlich gesucht habe und unbedingt kaufen muss: Jarquard Kelly Green 🙂 Gefaerbt habe ich ein bisschen Kammzug und eben gruene Sockenwolle. Das gemeinsame Faerben hat sehr viel Spass gemacht und muss unbedingt wiederholt werden 🙂

Last Saturday I met Mtlaise for our so long planned dyeing day. Actually we’re planning that since January but due to my crazy work level it didn’t work out until now. Finally we made it and dyed and tried new techniques and talked until late at night. I now know which green I was looking for and have to buy next time: Jaquard Kelly Green. I dyed some roving and green sock yarn. The dye day was totally fun and I think we have to repeat that 🙂

Faerbeexperimente / dyeing experiments

Ich denke, jede(r) Stricker/in mit einem Stash, der groesser ist als ihre zur Verfuegung stehende Strickzeit im naechsten halben Jahr, hat ein paar Knaeule, die ihr/ihm nicht mehr oder nicht mehr ganz so gut gefallen, schon weil sich der Geschmack mit der Zeit aendert. So ging es auch mir und deshalb habe ich am Wochenende etwas dagegen getan.

I think almost every knitter with a stash for more than the next half a year has some skeins that she (or he) doesn’t like that much anymore. So am I and last weekend I did something.

Das sind die haesslichen Ausgangsknaeule, bei denen ich mich am Ende gefragt habe, warum ich die eigentlich gekauft habe:

These were the ugly sock yarn balls and I kind of asked myself “Why did I buy these?”

Ich habe mich an den Ausgangsfarben orientiert und habe das Farbthema beibehalten.

I kept the color theme of the balls.

Mir gefallen sie sehr gut und die Farbmischungen fuer das Rot und das Gruen werde ich auch noch mal auf ungefaerbtem Garn oder Fasern austesten (ich notiere mir immer, was ich zusammenmixe, um Farben reproduzieren zu koennen).

I like them much more now and will use the mixure for the red and the green with undyed fibres again (I’m making notes about my mixures of dyeing to re-produce colors I like).

Ansonsten macht mir grad die Zeitumstellung auf Sommerzeit zu schaffen, die hier schon am letzten Wochenende war. Im Moment haben wir naemlich nur 7 Stunden Zeitverschiebung zu Deutschland. So, nun ist meine Mittagspause gleich vorbei…

Besides that I don’t like the time change to the daylight savings time. Because of the earlier time change we now have only 7 hours difference to Germany. So, lunch break is over…

Ich seh’ rot! / red, red, red

Ueber den Jahreswechsel habe ich gefaerbt. Ziel war es, ein bestimmtes Rot hinzukriegen und dafuer habe ich eine kleine Testreihe gestartet. Gefaerbt habe ich mit Lanaset-Farben (mittlerweile auch unter dem Namen Sabraset oder Telana zu finden).

Last week I did some fiber and yarn dyeing. I wanted to dye a specific red. I dyed Eiderwolle roving and a skein sock yarn with Lanaset colours (you can find them also under the name Sabraset or Telana).

Und das ist das Rot, das ich nachfaerben wollte. Das Original ist Donegal Chunky Tweed von Debbie Bliss und ich bin ziemlich nah rangekommen.

And this is the red I wanted to dye. The original is the red of the Debbie Bliss Donegal Chunky Tweed and I am quite close with my dyeing.

Die originalen Farben sind irgendwo zwischen allen Photos. Es sieht so aus als wenn meine Kamera keine Rottoene mag.

The original colours are somewhere in between all these pictures. It appears like my camera doesn’t like red.

Der Faerbetopf steht immer noch auf dem Herd und ich habe auch noch eingeweichten Kammzug, der nur auf’s Faerben wartet. Ich muss nur nochmal neuen Essig besorgen und ich denke, naechstes Wochenende gibt’s neue Faerbephotos 🙂 Ein paar Faerbetreffen mit Freunden sind auch geplant.

The dye pot is still on the stove and I also have some roving soaked in water and vinegar ready for dyeing. I just have to buy some new vinegar and I think I’ll blog some new dyeing pictures on the next weekend 🙂 and I also plan some dyeing with friends.

neue Färbungen – new dyeing (Project Spectrum)

Meine Mutter hat heute Geburtstag und da sie sich nun endlich das Sockenstricken von mir zeigen lässt, hat sie natürlich gleich die passenden Utensilien von mir geschenkt bekommen: das Buch “Der geniale Socken-Workshop” und selbstgefärbte Sockenwolle in Spätsommer-Herbstfarben (meine Mutter mag z.B. Sonnenblumen).

Today is the birthday of my mother and she want to learn knitting socks. So I gave her a good book named “Der geniale Socken-Workshop” (with many “recipes” for the personal and perfect sock) and some handdyed sock yarn in colors of the indian summer (my mother likes sunflower etc.)

Türkis / turquoise

Gefärbt habe ich natürlich auch wieder und diesmal habe ich das pure Pigment Türkis genommen und 2 schöne Stränge für mich und meinen Mann gefärbt. Ich finde es an dieser Farbe schön, dass sie je nach Licht mehr grün oder mehr blau aussieht.

Last Friday I dyed some sock yarn with the pure pigment “turquoise” from the Luvotex colors and I like that the color is sometimes more green and sometimes more blue.

Aubergine & Ballons / aubergine & balloons

Ich habe in den letzten beiden Tagen auch wieder verschiedene Aubergine-Töne gefärbt und insgesamt sieht mein Ergebnis nun so aus. Ich denke, es könnte langsam für einen geringelten Pullunder wie den Devon reichen.

I dyed sone different tones of aubergine in the last two days and now I have this result. Maybe it is enough for striped vest or tank like Devon.

In Leipzig ist dieses Wochenende wieder die Ballon Fiesta und da hängt der Himmel schon Tage vorher voller Ballons.

This weekend there is the 14th Saxonia International Balloon Fiesta here in Leipzig and the sky is full of balloons.
